This is a soft song without soft lyrics about a bad relationship. The spouse has died and the better half doesn't give a damn.

When The Heavens Open Up

© Mark Betcher

When the heavens open up
And the rain comes pouring down
I hope my baby gets closer to God
When they bury her in the ground

Today and the day before
I almost walked right out her door
Your sick bed talk don't cut it now
And I still want to leave you anyhow

When the heavens open up
And the rain comes rushing down
That will be the day, My Lord
To die in my river of Royal Crown

For better or worse you were my bride
You took my last dollar and you just died
This grain of sand grinding in my eye
Was washed out to sea the day you died

When the heavens open up
And the rain comes hammering down
You fill my grave with weak blue tears
And hold my heart under until it drowns

Purple flags on a row of cars
Lights turned on and we don’t drive far
Obit smeared ink on the home town rag
And I put your clothes in a Goodwill bag

When the heavens open up
And the rain comes flooding down
Digger turns his coat up to the cold
And his rusty shovel sings that coffin sound

The yellow sun burns out the hurt
It dries up the rivers of your flown' curse
And red flowers grow on your bed of dirt
To cover up the years of your best and worst

When the heavens open up
And the sun comes pouring down
Your last day on earth was good enough
To see you six feet down to Glory town
