Things I Think About
© Mark Betcher
I hope in the morning. For a new brand of day
I dream in the evening. On my knees I pray
Things I keep at bay
You open my steel door. And out I pour
I turn a page back. Just to keep track
Things about to crack
Stained glass light. Outlined in zinc white
What is left of you. I can see through
Things with a view
Now is tomorrow. And yesterday is borrowed
Why is your soul mated. To this thing I created
Things that are not dated
Keep up the good life. Take yourself a wife
See what you’ve got. Tie up a love knot
Things with a good plot
When you are older. You may still smolder
And then you are done. Done before you’ve begun
Things that are hard won
The heavens open up. The rain pours down
When skies are gray. Don’t you dismay
Things that don’t fade.... away
