Every once in a while I do a painting that just
totally works out. I mean on a deeper level. I've got all this bombast
going on here which makes me look like a bit of a hard ass. Well... that
depends our your view point, I guess. The edgy, feisty and sarcastic
me makes for better press and better presses your buttons. There you
go. But I also know there is a lot of fun and beauty in the world and,
on occasion, I like to try capture it in my art. I have rare glimpse
of true peace and joy. Those moments are fleeting... but I have had enough
of them to know they are real and maybe we all have a pleasant surprise
waiting for us on the other side. This painting started as a table...
the top of the table is now the painting. I started with a hokey peace
and devil thing on the table without much feeling behind it. The table
sat in the basement for years and I finally got pissed moving it around
and dismantled it. I kept the top because there were elements in the
painting I really liked. Then I met some neighbors... who turned out
to be real sweethearts... And they asked me to come up with a painting
for them. They love their many dogs, cats and horses, so I knew I needed
to work some of them into the mix. Then I remembered this table top and
instantly knew it was right to build their painting using it as a base.
The table top found the meaning it was looking for all along. So there
you go... if you found this page and read the copy... this is the side
of me that fights for dominance with the more pointed and tacky side
of me.
